Book Club – “The Librarian of Burned Books”
The Librarian of Burned Books by Brianna Labuskes is a compelling historical novel set during World War II, celebrating the power of books and the vital importance of preserving the free flow of information and ideas. The story intertwines the lives of three courageous women: an American author in 1933 Berlin who uncovers the dark truth behind the Nazis’ facade; a German Jewish lesbian librarian and Communist Party member resisting Hitler’s regime; and a 1944 American war widow fighting against U.S. censorship laws that threaten her organization’s mission to send books to soldiers overseas. As their narratives converge, each woman battles in her own way to defend freedom of thought and expression. Join us in reading this inspiring tale and discussing its themes at our upcoming meeting.
