Heartwood is a bestselling suspenseful literary thriller and survival story that is both suspenseful and emotionally resonant, focusing on the characters’ internal journeys and external mystery.  It is about a 42-year-old hiker, Valerie, who goes missing on the Appalachian Trail while hiking alone. The search is led by Lieutenant Beverly, alienated from her peers as the first female leader of the Maine Warden Service. Beverly interviews people on the trail and works with Lena who is a unique disabled woman who investigates Valerie’s disappearance from her retirement community.  The book is a literary thriller that explores themes of survival, motherhood, and finding oneself, blending a wilderness mystery with deep character studies.
